Continuing Education
Continuing Education Courses at the GCSW are designed to provide the human services community with opportunities to build practice knowledge and skills by offering courses which are responsive, dynamic and up-to-the-minute. Courses are designed for social workers, pychologists, psychiatrists, educators, nurses, counselors, and other human service professionals.
All courses are accepted for Social Work Continuing Education Units and LPC Credits. Other disciplines should verify CEU acceptance with their licensing board.

Community Projects at the GCSW
The University of Houston’s growing challenge is to enhance its institutional commitment to improve the quality of life in Houston. Throughout its 40 year history, the Graduate College of Social Work has been committed to community engagement through continuously connecting for sustained collaborative relationships with the larger local, regional/state, national and global communities.
The Graduate College of Social Work has a vital program of curricular engagement in which students supervised Faculty Projects committing themselves to field placements in a large number of community-based and governmental agencies to work and learn. Through its community research and collaboration programs administered by its Office of Community Projects, the Graduate College of Social Work provides institutional resources for community use for the mutual benefit of both the university and its collaborators.
A leading force in the University of Houston’s strategic objective of obtaining a Tier 1 status in the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching’s ranking for community advancement, the Graduate College is providing quality education for an internationally diverse student body, applying its research expertise to examine issues affecting communities and engaging in public service that takes advantage of Houston extensive resources and strategic location as global hub.
Nobel Women's Initiative
The Nobel Women's Initiative was established in 2006 by sister Nobel Peace Laureates Jody Williams, Shirin Ebadi, Wangari Maathai, Rigoberta Menchú Tum, Betty Williams and Mairead Corrigan Maguire. These six women, representing North and South America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, decided to bring together their extraordinary experiences in a united effort for peace with justice and equality. The Vision of the Nobel Women's Initiative is a world transformed, a nonviolent world of security, equality and well-being for all.
