Community Engagement Program

 

The University of Houston 's growing challenge is to enhance its institutional commitment to improve the quality of life in Houston . Throughout its 40 year history, the Graduate College of Social Work has been committed to community engagement through continuously connecting for sustained collaborative relationships with the larger local, regional/state, national and global communities. The Graduate College of Social Work has a vital program of curricular engagement in which students supervised Faculty Projects committing themselves to field placements in a large number of community-based and governmental agencies to work and learn. Through its community research and collaboration programs administered by its Office of Community Projects (OCP), the Graduate College of Social Work provides institutional resources for community use for the mutual benefit of both the university and its collaborators. A leading force in the University of Houston's strategic objective of obtaining a Tier 1 status in the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching's ranking for community advancement, the Graduate College is providing quality education for an internationally diverse student body, applying its research expertise to examine issues affecting communities and engaging in public service that takes advantage of Houston extensive resources and strategic location as global hub.
