Office of Community Projects

The Office of Community Projects (OCP) is the administrative unit that houses and manages a majority of the community service projects and activities that link expertise within the Graduate College of Social Work (GCSW) to the broader human service community. The creation of this office resulted from the recognition that the school, as a part of an urban university, should take a more active role in linking the expertise within the GCSW to the organizations and services responsible for meeting human service needs in the community.

Community-Based Research
The Office of Community Projects provides opportunities for GCSW faculty, staff and the community to collaborate on needs assessments and program evaluations for social service agencies throughout the state of Texas.

Continuing Education
Courses are designed to provide the human services community with opportunities to build practice knowledge and skills by offering courses which are responsive, dynamic and up-to-the-minute. Courses are designed for social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, educators, nurses, counselors and other human service professionals.

Nobel Women's Initiative
The Nobel Women's Initiative was established in 2006 by sister Nobel Peace Laureates Jody Williams, Shirin Ebadi, Wangari Maathai, Rigoberta Menchú Tum, Betty Williams and Mairead Corrigan Maguire. These six women, representing North and South America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, decided to bring together their extraordinary experiences in a united effort for peace with justice and equality. The Vision of the Nobel Women's Initiative is a world transformed, a nonviolent world of security, equality and well-being for all.

Center for Drug and Social Policy Research
As a university research office, the overall objective of the Center of Drug and Social Policy Research is the development of new knowledge in substance abuse and related social problems from a multidisciplinary perspective.

Train-The-Trainer
The Train-The-Trainer Certification Program in Child Protection Special Investigation is designed for experienced child protection trainers who will be providing training program for child protection interviewers in their own locale. The TTT Program is currently available to Social Workers, Clinical Psychologists and Police Officers in Hong Kong.
